Our previous editor was Lynn Hilton who joined us in June 2001. Lynn was the first female editor and the first to combine the post with holding down a full-time job, though she has now retired.

Lynn was Publicity Manager for a local engineering company and had many years experience writing press releases and advertising copy. She also edited the company magazine and had therefore all the skills appropriate to successful editing of the Talking Newspaper.

In May 1997 Richard Stringer became Editor. Richard had been a Computer Systems Analyst with a bank and had worked as both an Administrator and Financial Administrator for a charity on a 3-year secondment from the bank.

After four years Richard decided to step down from the editor's chair but remains very much a part of the team. After a period as Administrator, he took on the Tresurer's post as well as being a reader.

Cyril Northwood    Editor 1975 - 1980
In October 1975 just eighteen months after the successful launch, Clifford Rathbone died unexpectedly. The editor's chair was filled by Cyril Northwood, a retired bank manager. The Talking Newspaper gained a man of valuable administrative experience and ability who had the confidence to encourage those of talent and enthusiasm. Cyril retired in 1980 and handed the reins to his deputy, Roy Potter who remained in office as we celebrated the 1000th edition in 1993. Roy retired due to ill-health in October 1993 and his place was taken by Rex Sharpe. When Rex stepped down from the editor's role in May 1995, Bill Goodwin took on the position as a temporary measure, which lasted for two years.
Our present editor is Caroline Mole. Caroline worked at John Lewis in Cheadle for 20 years. She was editor of the weekly branch in-house magazine, researching and writing stories, taking photos, interviewing people, and setting out the page layout and artwork. She also produced material and uploaded it to the company intranet, and administered the branch internal Facebook account.

Caroline says “When I took early retirement, I wanted to do something meaningful that would use my skills, and the Talking Newspaper does that. Both my parents have issues with their vision, so I appreciate what a valuable resource the Talking Newspaper is.”
